Palm feeding experiment THE RESULTS

Post by Yorkshire Kris »

Comments welcome. Which do you think will grow the best?

My only concern is the amount of rain we are having and having to water the palms with feed regularly may cause them to be over watered.

I would have to say none of the above. I water mine with warm water with tea leaves and coffee grounds in it, works for me. icon_thumright

Interesting Kris, thanks for doing this icon_thumright . In regard to the rain, are you able to place the palms under some sort of shelter?

So you don't think any of them will do the best? icon_scratch If I had more plants I would have done more combinations.

I could put them in the open greenhouse but then they wouldn't be growing normally, more forced which is not want I want to do.

They are all in identical pots apart from the control which is in a tad smaller pot.

I'm hoping the one with Palm Focus and Palmbooster wins because that's what I use on my potted plants with the occasional chicken pellet top dressing.

I doubt the PB will have any great effect over such a short time frame though, you'd really need to make this a 12 month experiment for the rooting hormone to really produce results. With that in mind, I'm basing my decision on the Focus alone although I'm sure Nigel's fertilisers will be very good too.

Are they all in new compost straight from the bag? I wonder if we'll see any negative effects from potential overfeeding?

This is totally plant geeky stuff Kris and I applaud your experiment. I'll certainly be interested in your findings and it may even affect how I feed mine in future.

They have been potted up in mp ji2 and some grit since april. All received palm booster once when repotted. They had no feed until july 1st apart from what's in the compost. I will repot them next year to see how the roots have progressed.
