That is a pic of fruit, so female. The male flowers wither away to nothing by July.

Interesting that the fruit has folds or creases in them.

Thanks for your help Dave,

very strange as that was one inflorescence amongst many and all the rest did wither to nothing. There are plenty of Trachycarpus in Manchester but no other Trachycarpus nearby.

Think someone else's plant a "Naini Tal" did the same thing where there was nothing else to polllinate the tree.

just to show you Dave-I have upped the brightness so you can see both male and female flowers?
