Hardy Tropicals UK

Hi there,
I thought i would plant my potted Arenga engleri today. A lovely sunny late Winter day, and sitting on 16°c
This plant is ( yet another ) experimental palm, which i have never seen here. So who knows if it will survive? - I don't mind experimenting with new palms, because you will never know until you try.
I have had this outside all winter - bought it in May this year.
Its only sold in the north island of New Zealand ( not many palm shops down here )
Anyone had any success with this palm in the UK or Europe?

Here's the last 30-days for Christchurch during Winter.

Nice looking palm Rod, but your weather looks much milder than ours. The 30day in your post is the equivalent of end of Jan and Feb here. Ave max here would be around 7C and min around 2C, your ave max seems to be around 12 to 14C

And your winter sun is 8 deg. sexier than London's.

One distinguished palm collector had a sizeable one in his South London garden many years ago but I think it was planted out large and only managed one or two leaves a year.

My one was potted, only grew one leaf in two years and couldn't keep it alive in the greenhouse through a mild winter. Not very distinguished

We are having a warm winter this year ( coldest here this year in the city has only been -2.5°c )
Normal daytime temps through winter are normally between 8.0°c to 16.0°c ( av; 11°c to 12°c ) & peaking up to 20.0°c.
