Trachycarpus in Iceland???
Trachycarpus in Iceland???
I have read something on the net saying that Trachycarpus fortunei has been trialled successfully in both Iceland and the Faroe Islands, but could not find any pics to support this...
Does anyone know if this is true? Personally it sounds like stretching credulity a bit far but at the same time wouldnt be too surprised to find that this is true...
Does anyone know if there are Trachys in Iceland?

Re: Trachycarpus in Iceland???
I reckon it could well be real Sean, Iceland is a supermarket and it could well be a roundabout planting looking at the piccie
Re: Trachycarpus in Iceland???
You have a supermarket in the UK called 'Iceland'??? Thats even stranger than growing palms in the arctic...
I wonder if there is a similiar supermarket in Reykjavic called 'Britain'...

Re: Trachycarpus in Iceland???
How very bizarre...
So it looks like the talk of the palm in Iceland is just a marketing gimmick by some megachain...
Does this mean the mention of palms in the Faeros is another stunt by some Egyptian fast food chain???
You just cant trust what you read on the net these days....

Re: Trachycarpus in Iceland???
Iceland the island in the middle of the north Atlantic, about 60 odd degrees North, has a lot of volcanic activity, hot springs etc. I have seen pics of Bananas growing under glass heated by volcanic heat, so anything is possible
Best regards
Dave
