Latest update - Following the discussion about trauma of planting into the ground, I opted for wrapping the 'removed from the pot' rootball in polythene (with drainholes)and planting into the ground that way. The result - this year both trunks have pushed out new spears, one of them opening into a full leaf. If there was any delay in growth, due to the plant pushing out roots through the polythene, it must have been very short.
