How is this winter been for Phoenix canariensis_CIDP
Re: How is this winter been for Phoenix canariensis_CIDP
I can't keep them here and bought a cheap one from our local store just for bedding, not intending to protect. But I did. Mulched well, wrapped the small trunk and just stuffed a ball of fleece in the middle. I didn't protect the leaves at all and they are now straw white. I'm surprised that the new spear is still green. I take out the fleece on nice days unless its rainy or snow is forecast. Still a while to go before Winter is over (we are still having minus temps at night) but this little Phoenix canariensis_CIDP might just make it.

it might speed up the process David if it is going to comeback.im not saying it WILL comeback, might be a carker but if you prevent any further rot,it will have less rot to grow out if you understand what i mean

If it's a young plant I don't give it much hope,it won't have the stored energy to produce a new spear. In my experience anything with a trunk that's smaller than 4" diameter has little hope of recovery.
What state are the other leaves in,do they have any green left in them?

I personally would just buy a new one. They are cheap & you can get a similar sized one for around £10-£15 from B&Q in the spring...
Dig yours up & keep it in a pot (in the spring) & leave just incase it does grow a new spear, if it hasn't by the end of the summer then it's dead...
