Great instructions, I may try this.

Will it be ok to take roots now (MAY), from the main plant?

Or is this technique for winter months?

I am still waiting to see some growth out of mine..appriciate it Chris. they were set in a container with lid in compost about 3 weeks ago. rooting hormone on each end. now there in a prop to see if I can get them going but nothing yet. any normal time period I should see growth?

well sadly the root cuttings rotted...but I planted about 10 t rex seeds and after a week I HAVE GROWTH. 1 single tiny grass looking shoot but its there. I was starting to doubt this seed company but this one seed has started so maybe another to come soon

Should it look like grass? I think that would imply monocotyledon, whereas I would expect T. Rex to be a dicotyledon icon_scratch

Definitely should be dicot. I suspect what you have there Mike, is a rogue grass/rush seed :(
Also, most in the Araliaceae family would take about three weeks to show. I could be totally wrong, its been known before

there shouldnt be any contams in there it was sealed seed starting mix and bottle water..who knows what it is but somthing is growing. I am not real pleased with this seed company, worst results Ive ever had and this is the first time Ive ever used a prop. if its not a rex then I'll just have to get a starter plant in the spring

me either and they may very well not be rex seeds that just what they were sold as. since I've never grown one its all brand new to me. you just don't see this plant at all in the US, but I'm trying to change that slowly

They were all seed introductions, so are not clones, as seed has genetic variation, and clones don't. Pups and root cuttings will give clones of the parent, but seedlings may be different  Steroidial Giant is very similar to the one I call Cornish Grooved, where as the Monster is quite different, although they may have come from the possibly the same batch of seed

well the tiny seed strand has split right near the soil surface so it has 2 small spikes comming out of it now. will take a pic later...whatever it is i'll grow it out to find out..that Mighty is very interesting to me Dave icon_thumright

all the steroidal giants are supposed to be clones so that is what i meant.
