Mysterious hole digger.

Post by karl66 »

The last few days something has been digging holes about 8/9 inches deep & approx 6inches accross?, its not moles as i have them already & i know the pattern of how they dig :) , both holes were in large buried 75 litre bamboo buckets and its torn threw some roots!!. I have recently put manure round the boo's & was wondering if it was attracting anything?, my guess is a badger or a fox?, any thoughts, karl.

IT could be voles as grub said......My bet is it's a fox like you said karl..

I have an old "blue moon" rose in a large pot which I fertilise with fish blood & bone, foxes love it, this kept being dug out near the roots. Then one early evening a few weeks or so ago I caught, not literally, a fox in it this time digging & trying to cover a bread roll :|....It goes to show that foxes like bread with their meals  icon_thumright

Sounds like a fox to me. I can't see a vole making such as wide hole.
Best regards

Fox. I've had the same trouble and they usually dribble in it or leave their calling cards.

If it comes back, pee in the hole. They don't like human urine :ahhh!:

Methinks he means P in the hole, not on the fox

I'd like to do a great deal worse to that lame, mangey little runt that nearly killed my dwarf orinoco nana by digging out the compost on one side of the tub causing the plant to lean over, not to mention the stench in my greenhouse border when I left it empty for six weeks while away in the summer.

I've achieved some great things in my garden but the frequent "treading in the steps of the Masters" is not something I'm proud of....

You're right, Dave, they are quick. Even though he limps, he scarpers in a flash when I see him, only to stop dead when he's judged himself a safe distance from me and promptly turns round and stares at me in a stand-off

This is no mysterious hole digger, he operates in broad daylight, easily singled out in a line-up and he should be watching over his shoulder.....I'm waiting to pounce icon_rambo

Been out with a torch this morning & one of my fence panels which is painted black is covered in large paw marks!, these muddy imprints are two large for a standard moggy, so it's either a fox or a panther on the loose  . karl.

Photos? Should be identifiable from the pawprints.

It could be a Yeti, the Jersey Devil or Aliens. They're all partial to bamboo root as bamboo is not found up mountains, in Jersey or in space.

The logic is irrefutable. Elementary my dear Stetson.

You should be happy it's a fox making the holes, the only mysterious holes in my garden are made by rats!
