this seedling was in the pot with my aralia elata from crug.
it was hard to get out but since it was from crug i thought is was worth trying to grow it to see what it is.
i thought i might have damaged the roots a bit too much but it is starting to grow now so it is ok.
i thinking it might be a hellebore though rather than anything exciting.
any ideas yet?
ID, any ideas?
Re: ID, any ideas?
Looks like an ivy seedling to me too. A bit too young to be certain, though.
Re: ID, any ideas?
will see how it developes and keep you updated, see if anybody was right.
Re: ID, any ideas?
Oooh I got no idea what it is but hope you've got something exciting. A bonus to get a hijacker from Crug, especially when it's something you haven't got, or expensive

Re: ID, any ideas?
They are just the cotyledons (two seed leaves) and normally look nothing like the eventual leaf shape. It will need more leaves for most people to even hazard a guess
But the colour looks to be reddish, which could indicate a 'Rubra' of some type

Re: ID, any ideas?
Looking at the veins on the cotyledons, I'd say Ivy. The red blush seems to be a trait with them
Re: ID, any ideas?
I get seedlings that look exactly like that which produce ivy leaves after the cotyledons and since they appear under my Hedera canariensis I assume your seedling is just that. (Kick myself if I'm wrong )
Re: ID, any ideas?
Greville, if you've got seedlings of h. canariensis, you'd make a killing on ebay. That is the one with the big leaves, right?
Re: ID, any ideas?
I grow the variegated version and it's the only ivy in the vicinity. I assume the seeds produce the all green version.
Re: ID, any ideas?
You'll have to grow them on, just in case they're bog standard ones from bird droppings
