It's been very average (not a bad thing entirely)

A few temperatures stats, feel free to add your own.

June Max Mean: 19.3C
June Min Mean: 10.3C
June Mean: 14.8C (+0.7 above '71-'00 mean)

July Max Mean: 19.8C
July Min Mean: 12.4C
July Mean: 16.1C (-0.4C below '71-'00 mean)

so far...

August Max Mean: 20.0C
August Min Mean: 13.8C
August mean: 17.0C (+0.8C above '71-'00 mean)
Prediction: 16.7C (+0.5 above)
-------------------------------------------------
Temperature breakdown for JJA

June

Maxes between 10-15C: 3 days
Maxes between 15-20C: 13 days
Maxes between 20-25C: 7 days
Maxes between 25-30C: 4 days

Mins between 5-10C: 8 days
Mins between 10-15C: 21 days
Mins between 15-20C: 1 day

July

Maxes between 10-15C: 1 day
Maxes between 15-20C: 11 days
Maxes between 20-25C: 17 days
Maxes between 25-30C: 2 days

Mins between 5-10C: 2 days
Mins between 10-15C: 28 days
Mins between 15-20C 1 day

August: (so far)

Maxes between 15-20C: 7 days
Maxes between 20-25C: 8 days

Mins between 10-15C: 9 days
Mins between 15-20C: 6 days

So far althogether this summer (JJA)

Maxes between 10-15C: 4 days
Maxes between 15-20C: 31 days
Maxes between 20-25C: 32 days
Maxes between 25-30C: 6 days

Mins between 5-10C: 8 days
Mins between 10-15C: 58 days

So it's been a much better summer than the last few, maxes have been around average and minimum maybe a little below. No complaints as yet though.

What's your rainfall been like Stephen?

Up here June and July both came in around 200% of average and I can imagine that August will end up the same.

Great weather for plants that like it wet!

Well June came in here at 32.2% of the 71-00 E&W average

July was 108.8% of the average

August so far is 123.6% of the average.

Overall so far this summer, it's a rolling average of 88.2% (130mm),

If we've had an average summer, I'm praying for an average winter!

there is no way this has been an average summer.
it's cold.

normally we might be wet and not see the sun for months but it is never cold.

Stephen is most likely only talking about where he is Mr List, I'm sure Billdango would agree with you but up here in the NW it's been at least average.

Compared with the last half dozen summers it's been a belter here.

I haven't worked out all the stats for here yet, but it has been about average (July perhaps a little below). But average down here is still warmer than average up north...

May and June were slightly above average and July slightly below according to the Met Office.

I would hardly call that cold :?

my room in the attic of this house , is the hottest place in summer and the coldest in winter.

if my room feels cold in summer something is wrong.
something which has never happened in my life is happening.

It hasen,t been a belter here?when i get the statistics for June,July and so far this August it will probably turn out to be the cloudiest and dullest summer so far this century and may be the worst summer since 1985,lets wait and see.
I will wait untill i can get all the records for sunshine and rainfall etc.

I'll concur with that in Cheshire NW. Last few years have been monsoon season for months on end july/aug. This year i've been out on the mountain bike more times than I can remember to dusty trails, t shirt temps and the horse field "lakes" they usually drink from all summer long are dust bowls. Had to check on the water trough several times a week!

There have been unsettled weeks but they're made up with a nice spell of 4-7 days of dry outdoors weather.

June Min Mean: 13.3C
June Mean: 17.1C

July Max Mean: 22.6C
July Min Mean: 14.3C
July Mean: 18.5C

so far (to 17th)...

August Max Mean: 23.3C
August Min Mean: 15.4C
August mean: 19.4C

Temperature breakdown for JJA

Mins between 5-10C: 1 day

July

Maxes between 10-15C: 0 days
Maxes between 15-20C: 3 days

So far althogether this summer (JJA)

Maxes between 10-15C: 0 days
Maxes between 15-20C: 20 days
Maxes between 20-25C: 48 days
Maxes between 25-30C: 10 days

Mins between 5-10C: 1 day
Mins between 10-15C: 50 days
Mins between 15-20C: 27 days

Rainfall:

June: 63.6 mm
July: 45.6 mm
August: 27.2 mm

Total rainfall = 136.4 mm (LTA rainfall for J,J,A = 110.0 mm)

In summary temperatures have been around average (though July's minimums were slightly below average) & rainfall has been above average.

The rainfall anomaly has been down to heavier rain in short bursts, rather than spread throughout the month, meaning most rain has been from frontal systems as we tend to avoid convective showers right here on the coast...

Coldest summer here since 1993, according to the Met Office (just been announced on the radio). Not quite as wet as 2010, but very nearly.
