Re: tropical storm katia warning - due to hit Monday 12th Se
As a Winnie the Pooh Title, today has been 'The Blustery Day'.
We found a 8ft branch off the Eucalyptus in the middle of the road this afternoon, and it was not the high branch I spoke of earlier, as that is still dangling.
Max wind speed was not very high at just above 30mph at times, but some gusts were violent. The max was 104km/h (65mph) shortly after 1pm. By co-incidence I was videoing during my lunch break then, so may have captured the stormiest it got.

Great video Dave!
IT looks like all the country has had bad winds today. Has anywhere been spared??
Just read I man got killed by a falling tree in Durham

I think we missed most of it in Southampton as it was just a bit breezy?.
No damage anywhere and no damage in my garden except one broken basjoo leaf.
Simply just breezy warm and after early morning light rain quite sunny.
Sorry to hear about the rest of you taking a battering but i suppose our turn will come soon.

I did worry a lot, feared more like for my old Acer but she stood it well,
The gales through my tree have been Incredible, it maybe next season before I see any real wind damage on the tree.
Other than the bins rolling, and the fir tree falling over three times (now under cover) its been ok Bill.
No need to fret over Bamboo, its one of the toughest materials you can work with.

Just been out in the car to local Tesco, unpleasant being out, leaves and twigs and litter blowing all around, streets were empty though

Sounds like it needs a bigger pot!kata wrote: and the fir tree falling over three times

The vid looks pretty much the same as what we`ve had here all day Dave. Woke up this morning and a 2ft trunked Dicksonia antarctica of mine ( In a large pot ) was lying on it`s side. I`ve left it there till tomorrow as there doesn`t seem to be any damage to it and it`ll only be blown over again if i stand it upright again. I stuck thick bamboo canes around some of my more tender bamboos and tied them up and that`s done a great job in keeping them safe. Took all my smaller Basjoos and other things in pots into my conservatory but my larger Basjoos look a real mess now Have had that problem all this year though with the nanas.

Passed without Incident unless there is anything in the Wigan Reporter today,
I myself escaped unscathed as did my pride and joy.
I am happy dancing
I hope you are all dancing too.

Re: tropical storm katia warning - due to hit Monday 12th Se
Normally the garden looks it's best in September as things have had time to really fill out, but it looks a bit of a mess at the moment.
Anything over 5 feet that wasn't pinnate or palmate, is now. The exception is the large TRex in the back, as it was directly behind the big Chamaerops so more sheltered. Paulownia are reduced to a few leaves at the top with 8 feet or so of bare trunk.
I suppose the lack of pots and tubs makes it look worse, so I'll get those back out at lunchtime
