Increasing wind the last 2-3 hours with a complete blue sky and almost 23C in this later afternoon. Mean wind speeds quite the same but highest gust close to 50 mph here now. Large area in the nortwest got wind gust between 65-70 mph.

Still nothing special here, that supercell was more impressive. In fact it has been lovely weather, warm and windy since this afternoon.

It's getting a bit scarey now, it does seem like The North East is taking the worst, I thought it was meant to be Scotland!

I keep thinking that the worst of the weather is over, but the wind seems to pick up again each time that thought passes through my mind.

However, it certainly feels like the worst of it is over for now.

Its very windy in Newcastle, snapped miscanthus, lost BBQ cover and furniture blown about patio. Nothing major yet, but the bamboos are getting a battering. Hope its over soon, or no sleep tonight in our creaky loft :(

Your big bamboos in the wind must be quite a sight!

In a way I am pleased that mine don't grow too high or the wind would end up wrecking them.

Just been reading about the wind and damage on here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-14872365

Glasgow and Edinburgh saw gusts of 72mph and 76mph so it has been a windy old day.

Cheeky mare!

I don't believe in tact, a person is either honest or not, tact is a politely way of saying you're lying to spare someone's feelings.

In this case I felt it was necessary to point out to Stephen that standing on a cliff top in 50mph gusts is downright mental.

As it turns out, he already knew this. If he hadn't then having someone point out the serious mental disorders associated with extreme meteorology may well have been beneficial to him in the short term.

Imagine if someone had told Hitler he was a nutter the first time he mentioned world domination. Oh no, everyone in the Third Reich was far too 'tactful' for that.

Some of them did say that, but they didn't last long
