I had my first frost here last night, 0c brought a short lived ground frost.

Well it went down to -2.5 but now up to -1! Happy days.

We've had snow on the ground since Friday morning.
The temperature has not been very cold, but obviously not mild enough to melt the snow.
Roads and pavements were lethal this morning with lots of patchy black ice everywhere.

I understand why tempers are a fraying but I suggest we take a breather before this goes further.. dark winter days are depressing enough, we don't need members falling out with each other - forgive and forget, let's leave it at that because we're all good online buddies here!

Gosh I hate to see upset, well said Stephen . I'm not sticking my nose in, well I am a little , but we all know temperatures can vary greatly over short distances, so I believe when people look at their thermometers and record a temperature it is accurate for their own garden, never mind what official forecasts might say.stephenprudence wrote:I understand why tempers are a fraying but I suggest we take a breather before this goes further.. dark winter days are depressing enough, we don't need members falling out with each other - forgive and forget, let's leave it at that because we're all good online buddies here!

Its not a nice snowdrift its a nasty snowdrift its advancing at around 10 to 15m per year and swallowing this unique butia population.Conifers wrote:Nice snowdrift there in your second pic!Nigel wrote:Never mind Goggle heres a pic to warm you up taken 8am this morning

All that glitters isn't gold, eh Nigel?
Re: still no sign of the cold - all lies, it's freezin'
yes, sometimes the force of nature is unstoppable , when I first found these butias 3 years ago there was at least another 12 or so mature trees, but they have been buried, and at that time there was tips of fronds showing above the sand further back, so I think the majority of the population has already been exterminated. This is the extinction of something unique by natures forces.Adam D wrote:All that glitters isn't gold, eh Nigel?
