When Weather Makes Climate

Post by Dave Remnant »

Just read this interesting article.

http://news.discovery.com/earth/weather ... gn=fbdsc22

Last years long cold spell and the mild/warm stable springs for the last 2 years (including the Northerly winds that brought the Icelandic ash) was due to "blocking" and according to these studies could become more frequent and not relating to the changes brought on by global warming/climate change alone as many believe.

Lets see how this winter compares to last.

Well they're wrong there, northerly winds in spring are not warm, nor stable!

The article seem to be trying to explain warmth, but apart from April, October and November so far, I have not noticed warmth, in fact the opposite.

If you look at the NAO/AO it seem to be trending + over winter, but - more in summer. This is a real duffer for us and we get cold blocking weather in winter and cool Atlantic depressions all summer icon_thumbdown

February was also well above average, March was above average and so was May, not warm but comfortably clear of average. We live in a cold country year round, we can't expect +3C anomalies every month of every year.

As for the article, I think it would a little naive to suggest because we've had two cold winter this is what will happen from now on, and more frequently.

If man is guilty of one thing it's claiming he knows more than he really does.

No one can claim to be able to predict the future of the climate with science, it's just not possible.

It seems to me the article suggests warming waters of north atlantic and warmer climate.
