Oh boy I love statistics! Ok so Meterological summer has come to an end so here are the statistics for summer 2012.

Summer Statistics 2012

Mean Maximum: 19.7C
Mean Minimum: 11.9C
Overall Mean: 15.8C


Summer Rainfall: 324.2mm
Rainfall days: 51 days
Maximum rainfall in 1 day: 66.0mm (14th August)

Highest daily maximum temperature: 26.6C (24th July)
Lowest daily maximum temperature: 10.0C (3rd June)
Highest daily minimum temperature: 17.4C (18th August)
Lowest daily minimum temperature: 6.5C (7th June)

Temperature frequency breakdown

Maximum temperatures:

10.0C to 14.9C: 6 days
15.0C to 19.9C: 41 days
20.0C to 24.9C: 40 days
25.0C to 29.9C: 5 days

Minimum temperatures:

5.0C to 9.9C: 5 days
10.0C to 14.9C: 75 days
15.0C to 19.9C: 12 days

Compared to the Summer CET (81-10 average: 16.1), it comes in at 0.3C below the average, making it a slightly below average season

Do you have long-term averages you can put alongside those please Stephen?

Sounds like it might almost have been sufficiently recordbreaking that you could have added a:

Minimum rainfall in 1 day

figure :lol:

Here are mine:

Summer Statistics 2012

Mean Maximum: 21.7C
Mean Minimum: 14.9C
Overall Mean: 18.3C

Here are the LTA combined June, July & August statistics from the now closed Southsea weather station:

Southsea 1971-2000 LTA
Mean Maximum: 20.8C
Mean Minimum: 14.1C
Overall Mean: 17.5C

Summer Rainfall: 239.8 mm
Rainfall days: 43 days
Maximum rainfall in 1 day: 27.0mm (11th June)

Southsea 1971-2000 LTA
Summer Rainfall: 110.0 mm

Highest daily maximum temperature: 30.4C (25th July)
Lowest daily maximum temperature: 13.4C (11th June)
Highest daily minimum temperature: 19.9C (15th August)
Lowest daily minimum temperature: 10.3C (31st August)

Please note : LTA figures are for Greenwich 1971-2000. There will not be a Greenwich 1981-2010 as they have closed it down. The nearest LTA station now is Heathrow, 60 miles inland, and is not representative of the weather here.

Mean Minimum: 12.9C LTA 12.7C Variance +0.2C
Overall Mean: 17.95C LTA 17.25C Variance +0.7C

Summer Rainfall: 266.2mm LTA 133.2mm Variance % 199.5
Rainfall days: 41 days LTA 23 Days Varience +18 Days
Maximum rainfall in 1 day: 47.2mm (8th July)

Highest daily maximum temperature: 32.8C (18th August)
Lowest daily maximum temperature: 12.1C (3rd June)
Highest daily minimum temperature: 20.2C (18th August)
Lowest daily minimum temperature: 6.4C (13th June)

Temperature frequency breakdown

Maximum temperatures:

10.0C to 14.9C: 2 days
15.0C to 19.9C: 12 days
20.0C to 24.9C: 55 days
25.0C to 29.9C: 22 days
30.0C to 34.9C 1 day

Minimum temperatures:

5.0C to 9.9C: 10 days

Amazing stats from all for Summer 2012, especially Stephen,

The 14th August sticks in my mind since I was tracking the storms around this area that day !
Also, considering the quote below, I'm perhaps 17 miles inland from Stephen, but I could see storms over Liverpool / Wirral !
From the temperature perspective, it's usually much milder here too with a westerly :roll:

Anyway enjoy the current 'sunny' weather, albeit a little fresh in the breeze 'up north' :ahhh!:

Dave I was looking into when the Gravesend Broadness station opened (It was December 31st 1995) when I came across this link: http://tallbloke.wordpress.com/2012/08/ ... e-station/ Makes an interesting read...

How spooky :ahhh!: I was looking into when they moved Gravesend Weather station from the PLA building in Gravesend, to Gravesend Broadness today, and came across THIS There is a lot of discussion, but with local knowledge I felt compelled to reply.

What came back was
