hello from London
hello from London
Hello, this winter is my first real attempt at gardening (not counting the windowsill herbs, houseplants and a balcony garden). I'm interested in tropicals and tropical-looking, unusual/rare plants, edible and medicinal plants, permaculture, and pushing the hardiness limits. Although I've read a little bit on these topics, I have no practical experience.
I look forward to being part of this community and learning from you

Re: hello from London
Hi otorongo and welcome to the forum
You don't say where in London you are, but Central London has a much wider range of plants to push the limits on, but even out here, in the sticks, I get quite an exotic garden, even though nature has pushed the hardiness boundary back a bit over the last 3 winters.
The important thing when pushing limits is to have an insurance backup in case the worst happens

Hello Otorongo, enjoy the forum, plenty of people here to help you gain experience
Re: hello from London
North west london is not far from where i am and my area gets it's fair share of the nasty weather. I have found that unless it's bulletproof hardy then it stays in pots.

Hello and welcome! Winter is a good time for reading up about plants and planning projects ready for the growing seasons ahead. Make good use of this time to compile a list of things you would like to try out. Be warned though, tropical plants can be very addictive!
I hope you get plenty of enjoyment out of your new(ish) hobby!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I feel at home already
Sorry for the late response, I've been busy fighting the frosts
I'm in NW6, technically Brent but the southernmost corner of it, near the border with Westminster. I have 2 thermometers in a sheltered location just above the ground, and they're showing 4 deg. right now, the same as the WunderMap stations at Kensington, Angel/Farringdon and Bloomsbury.
This recent weather has been a good opportunity to learn about radiational frosts. When I went out into the garden this morning, I gave it a good inspection to see where the frost settles, which areas warm up first in the morning sun, etc.
I will write more about my projects soon in the appropriate section.

Welcome, Otorongo
You should be able to push some boundaries in NW6 - I can in SE19
BTW, do you drive a Jaguar

I used to ride a jaguar, but he wasn't hardy enough and I had to send it back to its natural habitat.GREVILLE wrote:BTW, do you drive a Jaguar
