Hello from Lowestoft

Post by James Moore »

Hello all.

I've been growing bananas and palms for about 4 years after giving up smoking and I have to say I'm completely hooked (on growing bananas and palms, not smoking anymore thankfully). I'm growing all manner of Trachycarpus from seed at the moment, gotta love it. Not having much joy with T. Takil, anyone got any tips? I assumed it was the same method as every other Trachycarpus, but I'm guessing I have to be more patient. I'm also looking for a source of heliconia seed still in the berry, best way to get them I think.

Plants I'm growing:
Musa
Griersonii
Helen's Hybrid
Sikkimensis
Sikkimensis 'Gigantea'
Sikkimensis 'Daj giant'
Balbisiana
Nagensium
Burmese Blue
Velutina

Trachycarpus
Fortunei
Wagnerianus
Nanus
Ukelhensis (spelling, can't even pronounce it!
Nova

Others
Washingtonia Robusta
European fan palm

Welcome, James icon_cheers

Never even tried a puff myself but I'm more than happy to have Nicotiana sylvestris self seed all over my garden.

I should think that four years worth of tobacco spending transferred to the purchase of your exotics would definitely enhance your well-being icon_thumleft

Hi James, and welcome icon_salut

Given up on the rollups and now started growing the 'rollers' I see. Much better for you health, although can be damaging to your wealth
Best regards
Dave

Thank you all for such a kind welcome.

Yes it does say my location is Peterborough I've just noticed that. I was in Peterborough when I registered here, but then moved to Lowestoft for work.

How are the seeds coing along Vagetarian? (interesting name, does it mean what I think it means?)

The seeds are coming along nicely thank you James. I've still got 3 of the 5 sikkimensis seedlings from last year and have 2 sprouted griersoniis so far, lets hope they make it to next year. icon_thumleft

Probably best not to talk about the name
