Hi from Paul in Essex

Post by PaulPlants »

Hi guys!

Just thought I'd introduce myself with a couple of pics of the garden.

As you can see its quite small, but that doesn't mean I can't pack a whole lot in!

When I left school I studied Commercial Horticulture at Writtle and expected my career to follow a similar path... However, I stumbled into a career in the jewellery and watch industry and I'm still there 10 years later! Over the past 10 years I have lived in The Turks & Caicos Islands and also worked on board a cruise ship, but I'm back in Essex and enjoying creating my own little paradise here!

Wow... I've waffled on. I really enjoy reading this forum and look forward to learning from you all and sharing what I know too.

Hi and one more for the Essex contingent.
Are you presuming its going to get warmer?

Are the tree ferns croziers still deep in the crown or are they further developed.

Hey steph, I'm certainly hoping for some warmer weather, but to be sure I'm heading off to Ibiza on Tuesday.

Everything is already starting to grow, the strongest bananas have already pushed through over a foot of tightly wrapped leaf and yes rob, the tree ferns are coming along nicely, the first new fronds have raised there heads and are standing proudly in the crown. They are really packed this year! I think maybe this long cool winter has stopped the first croziers from pushing up too early and getting bunt by the frost. I'm sure I'm not the only one that gets really excited when a tree fern bursts into growth after a cold dark winter!

Tree ferns are a good indicator of a new growing season as the growth reflect on how well they have been looked after.

Great pics. You've done all that without our input? - Impressed icon_thumright
