Hi, found this Forum when Googling whether Phormium flowers. First time I've seen it, thought it was from the Bamboo close to it. Can't wait for them to open, pretty excited.

The flowers on Phormium are striking, scented too (although they remind me a bit of burnt toast!)

Hello.

I have never noticed the flowers on phormium being scented, not ours anyway. Perhaps its because they aren't close to the patch and we have a large open garden?

Chez, I am not sure how far away you would notice, ours gets a bit up close and personal! used to grow a lot of the coloured leaved forms but the only one that survives cold winters here is straight P. tenax I find it quite striking rather than beautiful but at least its indestructible!

I don't think we get quite as many flowers on ours. I might be able to smell it close up if I hadn't got a cold but this year the cordyline is so strong it blots anything else out.
