Rod, a couple of palms I missed.
Syagrus macrocarpa.
Livistona Chinensis/Saribus hybrid.
Believe me, I have lived all over the north Island and
the Bay of Plenty has by far the best climate, most
sunshine hours (north Island), north facing aspect,
volcanic soil (retains heat). Most of the rain falls at
night. I could not grow anything like I can here in
Auckland where I lived for years.

The last shown palm is Livistona Chinensis/Saribus
Hybrid. Another palm I have growing but ommitted to

It might be possible to grow it given a protective cover on the extreme south coast?
Places like Ventnor or Eastbourne which often get more then 2.000 hours of sun a year seem a good choice.
No chance in Southampton as its to cold here in winter and we rarely get more then 1.800 hours sun in any year.
Another good place to grow it may be Jersey in the channel islands {sun av 1.950.hrs a year].
Jersey has had the highest sunshine record in the uk with a max of 2.340 hours recorded.

I have 3 tropical palms in pots (roystonea regia 3years, archontophoenix alexandrae 3years and hyophorbe lagenicaulis 5years). All three plants are outdoor except when minimum temperatures can be more low than 7-8ºC, normally 8-12 weeks between december and february, then I place in my office (min. 18ºC - max 22ºC) with light for plants.
Last days the 3 palms are outdoor, full sun, with minimum 9-11ºC and maximum 16-19ºC. In this conditions the palms grow slow but they are perfect.
I have also Pritchardia Pacifica and Adonidia Merrilii but they are young plants and are placed in my heated greenhouse with full tropical conditions like heliconias and other plants.
