Fatsia Japonica 'Moseri' an essential for the Fatsia lover!

Post by cordyman »

Bigger leaves now than my standard Fatsia japonica's, a lovely wax finish on the oldest leaves, fantastic leaf shape, and don't seem as prone to being eaten, thinking of getting some more what a beauty, just love it drunken_smilie1

"More dramatic foliage and fruits than the normal F Japonica. Very large digitate leathery, evergreen leaves. Each leaf grows up to 45cm wide. Compound heads of white flowers arranged in spherical clusters in October to January. Partial to full shade in sheltered position"

they don't seem any different from regular fatsia to me.

fatsia is so variable anyway, depending on position, weather conditions etc...

Leaf looks a lot more "cut" than mine bog-standard one. Bit of Edward Needham in it perhaps? :)

have you only a single fatsia?

I have about a dozen and they are all different to each other.

Interesting. I have bog standard, variegated and spiders web. Leaf shape / "cut" looks similar on all of them. Also have polycarpa Needham Form, which is a lot more "cut" ...

Do you think yours came from seed maybe?

Fatsia genus has 3 species, Fatsia japonica, Fatsia polycarpa and Fatsia oligocarpella.

Fatsia japonica cultivators:

Fatsia japonica 'Spiders Web'
Fatsia japonica 'Annelise'
Fatsia japonica 'Variegata'
Fatsia japonica 'Moseri'

Moseri is the most like the species Fatsia but with more pronounced digits. With all cutlivators you will have some plants that exhibit the characteristics of others!

I need to get a Spiders Web too they look cracking!

Here is my standard Fatsia on the left vs the Moseri,

They look really cut with longer lobes, and more lobes?

Heres some of the newer leaves on the Moseri

As already said though natural variance like we've seen in the T-rex can probably play a part

last year I took a few cuttings from a low growing Fatsia variety that has smaller leaves and grows more like a bulky clump of Ivy and spreads! I now have two small plants. Does anyone know what that variety it could be? thanks
