Tight maurelli leaves
Tight maurelli leaves
I have a thick trunk ensete maurelli and the leaves keep coming but it seems to be getting stuck as the leaves are now getting shorter and a new leaf is pretty much ready to come open when the one before has just opened.
Is there a good way to sort this and if so how as I do prize the stems open at the bottom to help them along but seems to have no effect.
Some help would be good as I want it to grow in height and not just to be dumpy

Re: Tight maurelli leaves
Lack of response is probably due to lack of information given.
Potted or planted ?
Fed or not fed ?
Do the leaves look ok other than size ?
A picture paints a thousand words
They are gross feeders so need a constant supply of nutrients. Little and often, is the feeding program to follow. I use half strength miracle gro twice a week. Too high a dose rate can cause problems.
Maurelii is a dumpy plant compared to 'Montbeliardii'

It's potted. I use fertiliser every few weeks with palm booster with tomato feed with seaweed. Watered every other day. I know that they are dumpy compared to the monti but the one in the back in the same size pot is growing taller as well as big leaves.
I will sort out a picture in a minute

Ok so lay off the tomato feed. And do just miriclegrow instead.?
Re: Tight maurelli leaves
Is that to do with the slugs getting down into the inside of the leaves and eating away. If so if I put slug pellets inside would that help.
Re: Tight maurelli leaves
Go on fire away. I would like too keep it. You are going too say cut the stem clean off aren't you. Lol

Yup! Don't be too hasty though as they sometimes grow through it, give it a while and see if it frees up.B19bst wrote:Go on fire away. I would like too keep it. You are going too say cut the stem clean off aren't you. Lol

How far down the stem. Been doing it for a few weeks. Was doing good.
