Begonia 2013
Begonia 2013
Its been a fantastic summer for my Begonias,
Red and yellow alike. It was a very slow start and with hindsight they would have been in baskets.
And a Schwarzkopf I bought earlier.
Planning for Spring has begun with my first Spring purchase an orange Fritiliaria.
Anyone know which plant the long strappy leaves belongs to?

Beautiful Kata. I need a dribbling smilely! I've just started to get interested in begonias and I'd really like to increase the few that I've got but one is a kind of bulb and another has stems similar to a busy lizzie and I don't really know what sort it is. I just hope it isn't an annual because it has beautiful coloured leaves.

£15?? Ouch Wish I'd know you wanted one, I have some spares. No way you could have known that of course.kata wrote:And a Schwarzkopf I bought earlier.
Re: Begonia 2013
I could'nt think, £15.00..where does it say that. Then I realised the Schwarzkopf was in an old Acer pot...
Sorry kristen.
The Viola and that plant have lived very happily all summer, the leaves are a lot longers now. What do you think now Clive, also Conifers said those tall plants near it are weeds, are they?
Jo;
Now Begonias are in corm form, not bulbs.
Last night I had bother editing this topic, and got called by text above the textbox, a spammer.... It was my fault I was trying to add the file which is now missing to the relevant text.
This is the red Begonia from another angle which is the missing file above.
Watch out for the Bishop of Landaff which is now begining to open, should be ready for weekend picture.

Re: Begonia 2013
This is it Kata. It has small flowers not the big ones. I do have a begonia which grows from a corm, but it doesn't have the big flowers like yours.
Re: Begonia 2013
I have looked for that one Jo but its escapes me,
Lets see if conifers sees the thread, Conifers is very good on plants.
My Begonias are pendulum ones. I gave them slow release. (4 in the pot)

Re: Begonia 2013
Those are Lovely Kata, my grandparents have hundreds of them and the colours are amazing. In fact my grandad gave me 4 corms earlier in the year and i've been so impressed with them i'm going to get more next year.
Re: Begonia 2013
DB ,
I have never grown anything so beautiful when I have had other Begonias, I think its been the type (pendulums) and the amazing summer heat.
I only wish I bought baskets now...still, always next season God willing.
Thanks!!

Re: Begonia 2013
These look very similar in leaf and flower to the ones I buy called Begoina tuberhybrida.
I buy as plug plants to go into my wall pouches for the first year, then the tubers are too large so they go into pots or at the top of wall/raised areas in the garden. They need to be raised in some way or the flowers will just lay on the ground.
Here is the topic I started on Begonia tuberhybrida earlier in the year.

I've had begonias for the first time this year and I am very impressed with them in fact they have become my favourite flowers. I shall definitely get some more for next year to fill my pots up
