There is one in my area that I think is a washy. It's not that large really, but looks good. Can somebody confirm it's a washy please?

Oh, I can only tell them apart when the washies look like they do in California or the Med  When they're small they look the same as trachies to me.

Interesting to note that nobody from the South West or the 'English Riviera' has posted yet! With their 'sub-tropical' climate there must be Skyduster forests down there!

That was an unnecessarily sneering remark icon_thumbdown What's your problem?
The few Washingtonias I've seen locally (I don't bother to grow them) have been blown to bits. Nobody seems to plant them here and even the sheds don't appear to stock them. There was a pair with a couple of metres of trunk that were planted in 1999 outside a hotel just up the road from here, but when that was demolished and replaced with a block of flats, the Washies went as well.

I didn't read it as a sneering remark Dave, more a comment on lack of response from an area that should be better able to grow them than most.

Here, my Washingtonia is subjected to strong winds all year from all directions, but suffers worst damage in winter, which I can only attribute to being battered at a time when sap is not actively rising, or frozen leaflets being snapped by winds.
Best regards

Wonder what the biggest in the midlands is?

Mine and the mother In laws have survived the past 2 winters but are still small.
I've never seen another around here, definitely not a palm for this area.
