Best palm for pots

Post by Mowgley »

Good evening all

I'm looking at getting a couple of palms for some pots. I
Which palms would be best suited?
Or would I be better off with some cordylines?

Pheonix roebellini. Mines in its pot and is indoors most of the year.It must be happy as it flowers every year .Of course it would be happier outdoors but as its in a flat on the 4th floor that aint happening.

Chammies do well in pots and and don't mind if you accidentally forget to water then.

Was either thinking a waggy, chammy or washingtonia
I like the blue ones Chamaerops humilis cerifera

Cordylines don't do well in pots long term. Trachycarpus wagnerianus or chamaerops would be my choice. :)

I would go for Chamaerops Cerifera, lovely looking palm and happy in a pot.

Pheonix Roebellini without a doubt. Suit pots perfectly and makes them much easier to keep in the UK.

Cordyline Karo Kiri do very weel in pots apparently (just got one and been reading up)

chamaedorea species, Elegans or Radicalis do very well indoors and can be put out while there's no frost possibility.

As you're in Nottingham I'd avoid the Roebelinii if you can't bring it inside.

Both Cerifera and Washingtonia will probably need the pot dragging to a sheltered spot and/ bubblewrapping if you're buying young palms. Make sure you use a free draining mix too.

Chamaerops humilis is far and away the best long term candidate for a pot in the UK.
