Nice palm, but could do with having the leaf bases trimmed a bit closer!

Fantastic specimen but planted in a very unsuitable garden.

The one in St Denys looks much nicer but the trunk is not quite as thick and at least I do trim the leaf bases properly.

I don't see that it's an unsuitable garden, many villas in the Med have large Phoenix in small courtyards and look great, however i think it's probably the lack of any other vegetation in the street that makes it look a little out of place! As for it being badly maintained and scruffy i would suggest that the present occupants of this council owned property have little interest or knowledge of the tree that they have in their garden! I noticed a nice fairly large Washingtonia just round the corner in a back garden but unfortunately almost impossible to get a decent picture, just a glimpse as shown below.

I was surprised how many huge phoenix c's there were growing in people's tiny front gardens in Leytonstone in East London. Trunks starting to form. And there's a tree sized one in front of Hackney town hall of course.

I believe there's three large ones outside Hackney Town Hall, a recent pic would be helpful!

Took this picture yesterday, one of the few large Phoenix Canariensis on Canvey Island, Essex that made it through the winter of 2011/12 albeit with severe damage which explains the somewhat stunted new growth, hopefully by the end of this summer it will be back to it's former glory! The trunk is around 2m tall.

Awesome. Really would like to see my own Phoenix canariensis_CIDP reaching a trunc height like that.
