Re: Anyone rent a polytunnel/growing space?
I have an allotment and went down that route with this in mind plus a bit of space to grow edibles. I underestimated how much some people frown upon growing non-edibles though. The latest set of rules are actually now 29 pages long - enough to put anyone off! I did grow some Colocasia "Mamoth&...

You did well to get that Ash. For £500 I think I'd be tempted to sell

Also not uncommon for 2 palms to germinate from 1 seed. I have a Butia eriospatha which has done this and even as strap leaf seedlings they were inseperable.

Worth a visit if ever in North Wales. The drive from Anglesey went through some stunning countryside.

The Cycads, Loran Whitelock
Anybody own this book? Been on the lookout for sometime but thought more than £100 was too expensive for a book. Look at these current prices

I've had a couple of the Baylis ones and they work fine. If you have aluminium frames make sure you buy the right type.

Re: Delosperma Soil Help
Delosperma cooperi is the most reliable Delosperma but only comes in one colour as far as I'm aware. There are other species, hybrids and forms coming available but they aren't all winter hardy. I've grown D. Ashtonii from seed and that seems to be hardy. Another D. karooicum with white flowers does...

Ordered a few exhibition ones this year as small pot grown plants for delivery May. Check out "Kenora Wow". "Indian Summer" was another I went for.

Re: cycas
I believe I'm approx. the same latitude north as Castleford. I once had a Cycas revoluta completely defoliate after a late April frost. None of my Cycads are out doors yet.

I don't know where you are in Lancashire but Gordon Riggs (Walsden) have had a large Chammy for sale for the last 2 or 3 years. It's a monster on a pallet with a price tag of £450.

A large part of the glass houses were relocated to a garden centre near Bingley, West Yorks early in 2013.

Re: What do you think of Euphorbia, Do any of you grow them?
I'm on the look out for EUPHORBIA CLAVAROIDES var.TRUNCATA. Could be the most cold and wet tolerant succulent euphorbia there is. Did you find it and how did it do? Yes Kris I did track one down at Cotswold garden Flowers. Currently lives in one of my cold frames, second winter now and producing of...

Re: Nannorrhops
Mine didn't do too well when left out for a couple of summers and it was only just forming palmate leaves after 10 years from seed. I'm sure it wouldn't have come through a northern winter without heavy protection.

Re: I want to grow Bromeliads
Some bromeliads are quite fast from seed. I've grown Puyas, Dyckias & Hechtias from seed. Puya mirabilis can flower in it's first year. I managed to get some Ochagavia carnea seedlings on Ebay last year and they are already nice plants.
