you can just trim them low each spring to stop them getting leggy and they resprout from low down I had annual ones for a couple of seasons but now have some perennial ones, love them. lots of lowers for months and good ground cover. very easy to take cuttings in october the annual ones seem to flow...

when I make decking a paving slab / breeze block is sufficient to spread the load.

If its higher I put a 4" fence post on top and attach to a joist

my friend has an artificial lawn and it looks good, to do it properly you have to lay down a sub base and top with sharp sand

they are really convincing nowadays and you can hose off the skids after you scoop up the cat poo :D
