Re: Sown Washingtonia robusta's from 2010 lack of growth

Hi San, I sowed some about the same time as yours, but the one remaining (I gave the rest away) is almost twice the size of yours. It is outside spring to late autumn, and I did notice a severe lack of growth by positioning the pot where it had the most sun. It is basically a seedling still, and can...

Fungal infections due to damp winter

I have just read a thread on another forum regarding fungal infections particularly in agave kept outside during damp, humid winters. It got me thinking that the A. Salmiana that I lost last year may have been down to a fungal infection rather than what I had assumed was because of the cold weather ...

Re: Composite decking

I have used mill board decking on school projects (website with same name), and have found it to be almost maintenance free. However initially some types can be quite slippery in the wet as they exude an oily resin or something similar but that should disappear after the first 6 months or so. The on...

Phoenix canariensis_CIDP blown over

Hi all, The first bout of very windy weather blew my Phoenix canariensis_CIDP over at a 45 degree angle. It won't stand up now unless staked. I think the main tap root is still intact so all the damage must be the surrounding roots. Is it likely to have had it?? I purposely planted it quite high in ...

Re: Big quick plants from seeds?

I can vouch for solanum laciniatum, nice purple flowers, big green pinnate leaves and thick black trunks. Will grow from seed to around 7 foot by 7 foot
By the end of the season. Mine still look fine apart from precarious lean angles due to the storms and weights of the plants.

Agave titanota black shark shoui

Just arrived courtesy of eBay. Another rare Japanese cultivar as claimed or another tissue culture agave? I love it and have not seen another one similar for sale anywhere. It's got a bit of superficial damage but that should soon grow out.

Regards

Paul

Re: Phoenix canariensis Hardiness Rating (Unprotected) ?

Mine has a 20cm Caudex and will be in the ground for its second winter this year. It's in a protected southern facing area 6ft from the house. Last year, when it was going to go below freezing, I loosely tied the fronds up to protect the growth point. When it was due to go below -2 and possible snow...

Re: Late Paul Higginson Succulent Collection sale -Sun 10th

Looks like agave americana variegata to me. Also can anyone confirm that the cycad is a macrozamia communis? If so, must be worth a small fortune. I also spotted what I suspect to be agave parrasana fireball.....would love that it my small collection!!

Mark l, yes these are seeds from the original plants you gave me....they are certainly border fillers!! Only had a couple of self seeded ones this year.
