Re: Arundo donax

I am looking for a tall bamboo like grass to add to my garden and I think it is called Arundo donax. Does any one use it. I am looking for a tall variety. Re: Orchids

Cymbidium orchids can be encouraged to flower if you keep them outside all summer, until the first frosts hit. It's nerve wracking but does the biz. Cheers, I'll read up on that one. I have a nearly frost-free sheltered corner, which might be all it takes... The downside is it doesn't get much sun....

Re: Bougainvillea Sanderiana

There was a fairly hardy Bougainvillea that flowered every year in a garden in west end near Southampton. This one had yellow flowers and gave a good show during the better summers. It was about 14 feet in height and spread but was killed during the terrible winter cold of January 1987. But it goes...

Re: Massive Anthurium leaf!!

In general tropical anthurium and philodendron don't like temperatures under +15ºC but don't need very high temperatures, 20-22ºC are perfect for them and 30ºC aren't fine. They are good plants to grow at home if you control humity.

Re: Feeding Bananas

The two more important nutrients for bananas are nitrogen and potasium. You can buy potassium nitrate NPK 13-0-46 at a store of chemicals. It's a very cheap and very used feeding for agriculture. It's pH is neutral. When the musa is ready to flower you can change to potassium sulfate NPK 0-0-50. And...

This year my Dwarf Jamaican is beating my record, 5 flowers in only 2 months.
Very nice plant but not easy to grow in winter, fortunately this year winter was missing.
