Re: Musa Basjoo flower

I've had one flower yippee! icon_cheers that has been outside all year in a pot, it is only a small plant but it has flowered and that's a first for me, it is still out there in the cold and appears OK :D

Re: Trachycarpus Digging!

Thanks for the link Kris icon_thumleft Can I just ask you.

1. How long ago it was when you dug it up?

2. What part of the year?

3. Did it eventually go into the ground?

4. If it was a while ago how is it doing?

Regards Roy

Trachycarpus Digging!

Hi! Has anyone ever dug up a 10 to 12 ft tall Trachycarpus? If so how hard was is? I have one that I am reluctant to leave behind, I don't really want to dig it out if I am risking killing it. I have had it for about ten years and grown quite attached to it  Does it have a big root at that hei...

Wow! I’m well impressed Delboy what a transformation and what a lovely variety of exotics and so neat and tidy too! Well done you, have you not been tempted to grow from seed? As you said you have youth on your side and it is quite rewarding seeing them grow albeit slow. I was quite successful growi...

Re: Phoenix canariensis_CIDP Protection

I lived near the green belt S/West in Brum where the temps reached lows enough to knock out 13ft Cordyline, 3 protected tree ferns and almost kill (all but a leaf or two) an adult Chamearops H. I have noticed the daffodils in Worcester flower a couple of weeks before they did in Brum where I l...

Re: Phoenix canariensis_CIDP Protection

For success, move away from Birmingham to somewhere much milder in winter! :D Conifers. I have now moved to Worcester and hoping it will be a tad milder than B'ham. I have had success growing sub-tropicals in B'ham try Google roybhamuk for some pictures on Webshots before they delete them at ...

Re: Banana question?

Sorry Palmer only just spotted your post, they are all basjoo's and all re-potted or transplanted now, I am pondering whether to wrap them all up for winter very soon.

P.S. I have clicked the "Notify me when a reply is posted" button

Phoenix canariensis_CIDP Protection

I bought these two Phoenix canariensis_CIDP's a couple of weeks ago £3 each, I have never been successful in overwintering them in the past. I have put them in the garage at the moment, do you think that will suffice? Please share your success stories.

Banana question?

Is it too late to remove banana pups large or small? I'd like to try and save them from the coming winter and have a back up stock.

Many thanks Roy
