Re: Longest summer since 1910 :)

What a load of balderdash!! Seeing is believing though. I wonder if they have ever written a story on long range forecasts being highly improbable. Or more to the point, sorry we were wrong.....again!!!

Re: How many years to get your Echiums to flower.

Sorry if I'm high jacking this post, but would you plant a seedling straight into the ground the first year or leave it potted up and wait till next year? Thanks!

Re: Trumpet vine

I don't know, first time I will be trying them. Maybe they need to get well established, if grown outdoors from seed, before their first Winter?

Re: Trumpet vine

Thanks, they are indeed campsis radicans. I bought about 25 of them on eBay for 99p delivered from China (bargain), So hopefully I will have enough stock to get a few past the first year and no great financial loss if they don't. I also had 20 Safflower seeds as a gift. (Never heard of them) but wil...

you are supposed to angle it so they deflect upwards.
Regardless of how you use them, these are not infallible. Remember nature always finds a way!

Re: How quickly a bamboo can spread and how to remove

Good tip! I've never used one personally, but still could be risky depending on how big the area is. If its not a good size I'm guessing that it will, over time, get congested down there and then a higher possibility of a few escape artists lol

Re: How quickly a bamboo can spread and how to remove

I've got very heavy clay and it didn't make one iota. It still found a way to run like Usain Bolt. Plus, root Barriers can cause an even bigger problem with the rhizomes going deeper to escape and then moving horizontal, making it harder to dig out and remove the plant if you have a change of heart....

Some nice varieties of Fargesia available. Fargesia Robusta Campbell or Pingwu is a tall hardy uprite, that's non invasive!

Re: How quickly a bamboo can spread and how to remove

I planted Phyllostachys aurea about 2.5 years ago. First year fine, second....well that looks nice, and thenThree weeks ago, when looking over the garden, I noticed a shoot popping up 3m away the other side of a Magnolia. Time to dig out!! proceed with caution!!!

Re: Lillies in Poundland

Every other day last year I was picking them pesky Beatles off the Lillie's. Is there a spray or something you can use as a deterrent?
