Re: Trachycarpus fortunei trunk types Survey

I've seen one where its trunk has started to split open due to it being stripped. Is that a common occurrence?

Re: Quercia Ilex Holm oak

Ive planted 20 amongst a shelter belt, they have not been at all fussy and are growing more quickly than I was expecting (but I will still be waiting a long time for them to get to a decent height!)

Re: What do you know about PODOCARPUS species?

My partner bought me a what I have always thought was a Podocarpus henkelli from Trevenna Cross 5 years ago but after reading this thread, im starting to think it might be a P.salignus. However, I've compared P.salignus and P.henkelli on google images and to me mine still looks like a henkelli. It w...

Re: Anybody checked there Dicksonia Antartica's recently

My D. antartica has it knuckles, but my D. squarrossa is still growing fronds (at a slow rate). Is this one of the reasons why squarrosa are more tender?

Re: Canary Island date palm, to move or not to move...?

My inlaws who live on the north coast of brittany planted several Pheonix Canariensis 1m away from a boundary wall. They are finally just starting to form proper trunks, but the bases are now pressed right against the wall!! They are now worried as it is looking more and more likely that they will h...

I got my first Eriobotrya japonica today and found that it was grafted. Is this normal and OK?

Re: Why do Dicksonia antarctica change colour ?

All the trunk that has grown on mine since it was planted in the UK is light brown / slightly orange and the original trunk is a darker brown. My guess would be that the colour differences is due to climate as I've seen lots of Dicksonia Antartica in Cornwall, but never a grey one. I think we get mo...

Re: Yorkshire Kris blog: sleeper beds

Your project looks similar to mine (I will also need to improve my drainage when I build raised beds). Could you tell me the grade/type of sand and gravel have you used? As I am not sure what is best. I once used leftover soft sand from when I built my house and it was a disaster (made the drainage ...
