Does anyone know if cold weather affects scale insect?I 'rescued' a sad looking Butia last year from a local nursery.It was badly infested,I've tried everything to get rid of the scale insect,but the new leaves are emerging with it still,so do I risk planting it out with protection and hope the cold...

The leaves can irritate,mine is near the pool and my kids have never had a reaction,but last year a friends daughter did,her body was covered in a rash!!beware!!

I have lost4 cordylines in all,they were well over 18ft and I have never had any problems until this winter.This windy weather is making them shed even more leaves and in doing so I'm giving up hope of any chance of survival!At least the kids are enjoying playing sword fighting with the dead leaves!...

At the end of the summer I empty our pool water onto the garden where my cordylines are and they are 15 to 20ft,never had any ill effects so far.I wait till the chlorine levels are low though!

Mine was looking great,even pushing out a new leaf..until today.Went to check the greenhouse and the whole plant was tilting,it came away in my hand and something has eaten clean through the base..I am gutted !!

Hi Sam It got to about 7 foot,the trunk was about 2 foot high,with huge leaves,so I',m gutted as I grew it from seed about 15 years ago.

I have just got a replacement on E bay,170cm for £75,and I will try not to kill it this winter.!!!!

My 10 year old (deceased) washy was finally dug up and dispatched to the greenbin today.I 'm ashamed to say I killed it by wrapping it up too much Despite this I really want another,so does anyone know where I can buy a replacement,without costing a fortune?
