Cordyline in trouble

Can someone tell me what is going on with my cordyline. Two branches; one perfectly healthy, the other dead (or nearly dead). The dead one has some strange growth inside inside that might once have been a nascent flower. (Apologies for the upside down images. I don't know how to correct them) IMG_29...

Rotten Basjoo

Hi Jonty. Don't worry. It will reshoot from the base. The winter before last I dug out a cherry tree that was planted next to one of my MBs. The hole was 3 foot deep and exposed the roots of the MB. Then the beast from the east hit and the hole (in heavy clay soil) filled with water and froze. As ex...

musa basjoo time to unwrap

I unwrapped mine nearly 3 weeks ago and they are doing fine. I'm planning on chopping off some of the suckers and potting them up this week.

yucca aloifolia purpurea

I know this is an old post but I went to Akamba today and they had several of these for £12. Decent plants too. Also picked up a Melianthus Major for £8.50. (Standard size wine bottle for perspective).

Crinum lily

I am now seeing these bulbs for sale in nearly every garden centre I go in. Funny how I'd never noticed them before.

Introduction plus Canna question

I went back to where I saw them and the guy there gave me a pretty decent sized plant. Aren't people nice! Happy holidays!

Aspidistra

Ive just bought an Aspidistra from a local garden centre who had it amongst their houseplants. I bought it to add a bit of evergreen to my depleted garden but am now worried that, as it has probably been indoors its whole life, it may not take too kindly to being put outside at this time of the year...

Temperature difference in UK

How far you are from the sea is also relevant of course. Here in the East Midlands we had a frost of around -1 /-2 a couple of weeks ago. It blackened the leaves of my bananas and cannas. I have now cleaned the canna rhizomes up and brought them in as well as the ensete VM trunk. The musa basjoos ar...

Crinum lily

I appreciate the advice Chad but all suppliers are either saying "out of stock" or available from Jan/Feb March onwards. Great picture. They just seem like the perfect plant for keeping interest in the garden once everything else is being put to bed.

Crinum lily

I saw this lovely spider lily (?) in Weston today. So much colour in mid November. I think its a Crinum Amabile (but would be happy to be corrected) and so have spent a while this evening looking for somewhere in the UK that sells the bulbs. No luck at all though. Does anyone know where they can be ...
