Wow, they look great! Do you have pictures of how you protect over the winter? I’m a little confused about the ‘growth bud’ part. From what I’ve read if I want to leave the plant in the ground over winter I can either: - cut it right back and it will from from the base again next year. All of last y...

It's that time of the year (cold) and need some advice regarding my 2 basjoos. I am reluctant to wrap these 2 as i lost last years due to a rotten stem, my options this year are: - leave in the ground and mulch (disadvantage of losing all of this years height) - remove and place in a pot in a cold g...

Looks good Tatter your basjoo is a good size. What do you do with you Cannas over winter. I stored them and replanted but I think it was a little late as they haven’t flowered yet

Thanks kid, where do you keep the pots over winter? Would a unheated greenhouse be ok?
With the drainpipe, do you cut the top of the musa when it is still green?

Thank, I've cut back all the way to the base now and no sign of any green. It’s been like this for a week now, is it ok to leave as it is or cut back further?

Yes, they could get into next door, would it be ok in long pots? I’ve read that these would need to be really strong to prevent the root from breaking through

Bamboo Screen / Hedge

I would like to use bamboo along my fence as there is a strip of soil between it and the patio (7m long, 0.5m deep, 2m high) I have read that bamboo can spread easily and can be a problem. Are there any recommendations to use that would just stay in this area? It would be nice to use a variety too t...

Japanese Blood Grass

I’ve seen some Japanese blood grass in the garden centre today. I’ve googled to see if these can be planted by seed but couldn’t find any available.
Does anyone know if seeds are available?

Thanks, I’ll cut the pseudo stem tomorrow as see if I can see any sign of life. It was really soggy so there is a risk that the roots have rotted.
If I don’t see anything , do i just cut all the way to the bottom and see if it regrows from the root?

Thanks Grevilleaj, I’ve tried to go for lot of evergreen and perennial to try and keep the base of the garden intact year on year and then add a couple of extra items each year

Thanks. I don’t have a greenhouse but my parents do (unheated) maybe I could put the bananas in there next year. Would you recommend keeping them in a pot planted in the soil so it is easier to remove them? My garden is not huge so I don’t them to grow too tall. If I place them in the greenhouse do ...

Hi everyone, I started my 'Jungle' last year starting with the following. I have no experience and just pick what I like the look of and following a bit of research about it, I also have plants that were gifts that don't really fit in but my borders are not full so I need to take what I can! I like ...
