Garden "ornaments"

I carved the Bacchus face about four years ago as I like making things in wood or stone and have since carved an ornament for a local community orchard. I tend to do carving or other craft work in the winter for something to do as my tropicals are all sleeping.

Garden "ornaments"

A few ornaments which maybe of interest to our members. Tha parrot was from Spain, the elephant head and face mask was from Cape Verde, the wall plaques from Greece, the water carrier from Great Yarmouth and the Bacchus carving was by me.

I did try to post a couple of pics but unfortunately the files were too big.
I will try to upload a couple of smaller files in the next day or two for your perusal.

Wrapping v Drapeing

This topic reminds me of a Gardners World programme with Geoff Hamilton who placed a largish box in his greenhouse three quarters filled with polystyrene granules into which he placed the glass inside from a thermos flask full of hot water, leaving just an inch or two of the double insulated glass t...

Strelitzia nicolai tucked up for winter

I did have one of these in the cold conservatory which I grew from seed but it go too tall and I gave it away. This year I have kept the Regina dwarf variety in a cold greenhouse which has been down to minus 5 one night, minus 4 another night and quite a few nights minus two. No signs of any damage ...

Palm advice please

Unfortunately I'm not going to be around to see the Jubae grow up as I'm 72 but will enjoy watching the others grow in a a new bed I'm planting up in April. Giving the garden a makeover while the wife is in Oz so I can steal more the lawn. She'll burn my ears again when she gets back as I steal part...

Global warming in uk

I have recently read that the Met office reckon we have gained an extra thirty days of growing weather. If they are right then it bodes well for our members. Believe it or not I cut my lawn on the 30th of January, the first time I have ever done that as it is normally late February or March.

Arundo donax

A good alternative to Arundo is Miscanthus giganteous but it can look tatty in winter unless you cut it down in Autumn.
