Re: Scarlet Lily Beetle Alert

I spotted a couple in the garden on Saturday when I was busy moving my pots around. I have a few oriental lillies from last year that I am waitng to sprout. The beetles are hanging about I guess in readiness for that moment.

Re: HAVE YOU SEEN THE FORECAST TEMPS ???

Believe it or not huporhaha, my brother-in-law was speaking to that poor unfortunate pilot yesterday at a petrol station in Reading. My brother-in-law noticed the kit he was wearing and asked him if he was in the red arrows. He replied that he was doing the show in Bournemouth and looking forward to...

Re: yucca recurvfolia in b and q

Mine saw through the last winter without any damage at all so they seem to be very cold-resistant. Mine has rocketed away so far this growing season.

They have a vote from me. icon_cheers

Re: The wild palms of Doncaster plus a yucca.

They look very nice but I bet my bottom dollar that the exposed Washie does not make it through the winter. Who on earth decided to plant that there.... and in Doncaster? It is a shame because it looks like a fine specimen, not much larger than some I spotted in a nearby garden centre in Cardiff rec...

Re: tips on growing a washy robusta?

I think most people have summed it up for you on this thred. Save your money and buy something else. Especially in your location and if we have another winter like the last then it WILL sucumb and die most horribly. I have lost a few now in much milder Cardiff, one of which was expensive and I don't...

Re: Kiwi Plant

I am growing one hairless variety called Actinidia Issai. Got about ten grape-sized fruits off it last year but this year I think the plant is on it's way out. Mine is planted in a large terracotta pot that froze through completely and expanded and cracked right down the middle. I have braced...

Re: The Wonder of Weeds

Will get on and check this out but Im watching David Attenboroughs 'Life of Plants' online right now. Completely amazing cinematography! Mr Attenborough is such an asset to Britain, has Her Maj knighted him yet?? I was actually watching that series last week, an excellent series all round and just ...

Re: Trachycarpus Fortunei Growth Rate

Two of my newly planted palms from last year, a Waggie and a Fortunei have only put up two leaves each. A Fortunei I planted two years ago has put up three leaves. My larger Fortunei is pushing up it's fifth frond. A Takil and a Waggie are also on five each. I think after three years you start to no...

Re: Scarlet Liliy Beetle - Lilioceris lilii

I was tempted by the washies but the chances of them continuing to throw out such big leaves once the existing have gone is probably not good. There's a massive one in Bristol for sale ,£175. Easily the biggest i've seen . I had to talk my mrs into NOT letting me buy it..............imagine that :l...

Re: Scarlet Liliy Beetle - Lilioceris lilii

Arlon, I have not visited the Pugh's centre in Wenvoe for some time. I tend to head to the one in Taffs Well which always has nice stock. I was in there a couple of weeks back and I noticed they had just had a delivery of some very mature Trachies. Very long spathes on them I noticed so they must ha...

Re: Scarlet Liliy Beetle - Lilioceris lilii

I sprayed mine this morning Arlon; this appears to have done the trick because there is no sign of them any more. Shame really that they had to go because they looked quite colourful and exotic but I would rather my lillies stayed and they went. I cannot see any damage luckily. The liilies have flow...

Re: What do you feed your bananas and how often?

I feed mine with Chempak high nitrogen feed. Otherwise I use phostrogen. Just found this link to some palm feed that I have not seen before. Anybody tried it yet? Called - Palm focus, you can alo buy it on eBay. Looks cheaper than Palmbooster. http://www.gardensite.co.uk/Growth_Tech ... t_Feed.htm K...

I assume you don't have the same quantities with the beetles that you get with the greyhounds aye John?

Otherwise, you must have one hell of a beetle problem.

Interestingly, it is allegedley absent from Wales apart from Cardiff (How privileged am I) and you can keep them there too Keith. If they start hitching a ride down the M4 or the A48, we'll no who to blame.   I was wondering if you had any over by you Arlon, Makes sense to assume th...

Scarlet Liliy Beetle - Lilioceris lilii

Has anybody seen any examples of this little blighter in your gardens recently? I caught this one this morning along with three others on one of my liliies. The other two lillies appear to be absent of them. Interestingly, it is allegedley absent from Wales apart from Cardiff (How privileged am I) :...
