I have a baby bath in my monitor lizard cage and the waters heated ,The water has to be changed as the lizard dumps init .So i throw that on the garden .

I agree with Flounder Red Cordy don't seem to die .We have lots in Southampton some growing in poor conditions shade pots they keep going .We also have the yellow and green stripe Cordy they seem to be hardy too .But not so many Canary Palms .

It does look very woody now and very dry .Some homeless guy was sleeping in it I woke him up . I use to cut mine to the ground every year .

Its all on the coast near ferry port Oleanders Cordys some big Chamaerops and Canary date palms .But Major full of flowers and about 12 feet wide .

Mines dead I have a five foot post overprotected the poor thing .I have six small ones and no room to plant them .I will keep some in big pots .

I have seen Phyllos Nigra take over a garden and go next door in the New Forest. I think nigra was looking for light .Also Phyllo green gone AWOL in full sun in winchester.I planted arrow bamboo for a short time that went next door and was hell to dig up.

Some trees will stay smaller in a pot .Easy to move your garden around without digging up and if you have half hardy plants you can move them under cover. Poor soil or a concrete garden it maybe the only option for you.

I planted my Butia haryasspathia today and the Magpies keep stealing the hair from the trunk for their nest .

I got some more too and will plant them out later. I dug them all up last year from the garden .I need to find a good place as I keep sticking the fork in them . The red beetles I killed hundreds last year .My wife uses them as nail varnish they splat red.
