Forum still live?

Jon its Dead and not supported anymore by the HTUK Admin Team. Dave Brown walked away a while back but I saw him at the EPS Wisely meet back in the summer. The update on your garden was interesting but wasted on here. Try GOTE, Pushing the Boarders and the EPS forum and Facebook for active exotic pl...

Forum Comeback

Dave its super to see you are back and I hope you do not disappear again. If HTUK is to rise once more from the ashes and become the home of good discussions on palms and exotic plants you need to do some moderating. Also I know of HTUK members who have struggled to log in not received admin respons...

Welcome back HTUK

Grev it is a dead duck on here I really cannot understand why it has come back again. I think you are flogging a dead horse. I have given up posting on here but as you had tried to kick it off again, felt I had to make a few comments. There is no one in Admin monitoring the forum and Dave Brown igno...

Re: How many years to get your Echiums to flower.

What do you call elaborate protection? I just mulch the ground with leaves for the winter and If it looks as if it is going to freeze I put a sheet or blanket over the growing point depending on how cold it is going to be. icon_thumright JJ I purchased a large bale of straw and encased the trunk an...

Re: Twin stem trachycarpus fortunei

The multiple trunks are not common but do exist even for other varieties of palms. My so called twins were brought home in the back of my car. They were fused together and I had to saw them apart. I have had them about 15 years and they have grown much quicker than 2 in my front garden.

Re: Twin stem trachycarpus fortunei

They do exist but normally its 2 seeds in the same pot. These trachys in my garden were quite small when I purchased them. They shared a small pot, were sawn apart and planted next to each other. The picture was taken 2.5 years ago and they are much bigger now. http://www.palmsociety.org.uk/forum/im...

Re: How many years to get your Echiums to flower.

I had found that the only way to get flowers had been to pot them for 2 years (frost free greenhouse in winter) and plant out in the third. This winter is different for me. I still have the potted echiums in the greenhouse but my borders are full of bigger plants that germinated last summer and have...

Re: echium pininana protection

Parkeey unless you are in a mild area or we have an exceptionally mild winter you are going to struggle to keep an echium alive during winter. Its not a good idea to keep any plant wrapped up for months. I have tried a bale of straw round a 6ft plant with a water proof cover and it still snuffed it....
