Re: C.Humilis problem
No,no basal shoots, this plant itself was a division of one much larger about 10 years ago and has been in this position since then but the stem problem has been only in the past year.I first thought of lack of water but that isn't the case. The stems seem firm enough but they obviously shouldn't be b...

Re: LARGE Washingtonia palms in UK ? pics/links and info
We need to start a survey of the larger Washingtonia palms in the UK. Billdango's idea  Some, like mine are well known and documented, but others seem to be tucked away and remain anonymous. If you know of a large Washingtonia let us know, and if possible post up a pic :) Please only post on ...

Re: gunnera manicata
As in 9cm pots I would place them in the greenhouse. Do keep an eye on them and keep them watered and check for mould. I would put outside in April/May. Mine are outside all the time covered with their old leaves but they are older. Buy chicken pellets and use a handful when planting your gunnera=w...

Re: Might dig up my lasciocarpa ...
My Musella lasciocarpa has got through the last couple of winters with minimal protection, but has rarely done much come summer. I love the plant and it seems wasted doing this every year. I think I might dig it up and bring it in .... I presume they do ok in containers? I presume it likes a free d...

Re: Winter like 1947 threatened ,how likely?
No chance of anything even close to 1947/1963/1981 or even 2010. It will be cold though... I think if it all goes pear shaped, we'll get something like 2001 (lots of frost and ice, not much snow), or 2009 perhaps. At the moment it's looking like 2005.. lots of clear, dry weather, but without...
