Re: New Butia beast is home! Need a feed?

Nice to see that someone on here got it! icon_cheers
I didn't realise it was in such a big pot but I can see that now. Good to hear that you got some other bit too. icon_thumleft

Re: Gardeners World 2014

The new series arrives out of the blue.Must be a bbc secret shhhhh Thought the same thing - would have missed recording it if Kris had not said. There has been adverts on BBC1 over the last couple of weeks advertising it here. I take it that you didn't experience the loss of sound in your area then?!

Re: Gardeners World 2014

Well we have lost all sound here and they are talking about cannas, gingers, dahlias and gunnera's by the look of it!!
Waited all winter for it and no sound!!

Oh wait a minute.....sound has now been restored!

Edit: just in time for Mr Don to talk about roses

Re: Alocasia calidora problem.

Thanks again for the advise. I took off the old leaf by hand this morning using my thumbnails. It was like shelling peas!
No damage to new leaf I think!

Now looking very promising! icon_cheers
I'll tidy it up a bit more when the leaf has emerged properly.

Re: Alocasia calidora problem.

Looks like we have progress today! icon_cheers

All I have done is push the pot up against the radiator to give it some heat.

Looked at the 'Nancy's revenge' this morning and it also is trying to push out a leaf! I thought I was going to loose them both! icon_thumbdown

Re: Alocasia calidora problem.

Hope you're successful with Ali cali, Springy. I acquired mine last autumn and kept it in the warm. It's given me two full leaves to date. Can't say the same for my Nancy's revenge, however. Got this at the same time but it was damaged in transit and despite the warm cossetting it shrivelled its wa...

Re: Design Advice - Creating a Jungle/Tropical Garden

Hi J4mes, i dont know if your looking to create a path/patio etc but i came across this pic last night, I think its a great design idea for small gardens. [ Image ] Dee's picture sort of shows what I was thinking, if you have an 'hour glass' shaped lawn or gravel area where you have to go through a...

Re: Alocasia calidora problem.

Your next leaf would come out of the bent stems' petiole. Can you tie that up with a cane to encourage the new leaf to open? That's a good point! Thanks for the advise, I have done just that. icon_salut Now I've also got to get some life out of this one! It's colocasia 'Nancy's revenge' apparently!...

Re: Alocasia calidora problem.

Thanks for the advise. I don't have any heat source other than the top of a radiator but I guess that would be too warm? icon_scratch
Still looks sick today but the decline is slowing down now I would say.

Re: Alocasia calidora problem.

It's gone dormant. Either play the waiting game or bake it like Dave Brown does. Thanks Kris! But why would it try to go dormant when I have brought it into a lighter, warmer place? icon_scratch I'm GUESSING that it was just starting to go dormant before it was brought into a warmer place, perhaps ...

Alocasia calidora problem.

I have a problem with my alocasia calidora. I have kept it in my unheated outhouse this winter with no problems at all. Just over a week ago I brought it into the house, gave it a dash of water and placed it in the "sunroom" to grow it on a bit ready for planting out this year again. Since then the ...

Re: Some pictures from last year...

I love our garden and photos, very colourful. It's always easy to recognise thanks to those yellow borders and brilliant washy. icon_thumleft I agree with Kris, it is easy to recognise with the yellow low walls, although I didn't realise it was your garden! Exotic life! I really like the look...
