North West Wales in for a hammering on last friday in Feb.

Went out at 5oc tonight to find clear sky, and even worse no wind. :ahhh!: In my case that is the worst scenario possible. The frost rolls down the mountains and sits in the garden! As long as there is a slight wind the water in the estuary keeps the frost away but no wind, and I'm in trouble. I sho...

Re: Tall Shrubs for the back of a border.

You could try Pyracantha flowers and berries ( until the birds strip them). Bomb proof and trimmable. If you are looking for something a bit more unusual how about Crinodendron Hookerianum with its lovely red bells in spring. It grows well for me. Embothrium Coccineum is a nice evergreen but you wou...

Re: A haunting view of a closed exotic garden

I remember going years ago to buy Koi Carp, I wasn't into exotic gardening then! It was always so busy. I wonder what went wrong. :(

Re: Dahlia planting.

Tried dahlias for the first time last year but didn't have a problem with slugs despite having a garden full! You must be overrun Mr L. Personally I prefer Cactus Dahlias, I find the others to uniform for my taste, but to each his own. icon_thumright

I've just taken delivery of some tubers from Van Meuwen, is it too early to plant them out yet? If so, when do you plant yours. Thanks. icon_thumright

What's your favorite gardening chore

This week I tackled my favorite chore, reducing and thinning the branches on my Eucalyptus tree, a job I have to do every year. Its not that I like swinging about in the branches on a ladder, It's the gorgeous smell as you prune the branches. The smell stays with you for days. What do you enjoy doin...

Re: Daily Express takes its global warming theorum up a leve

As someone who lives on a floodplain, I quite agree with you Flounder. Do your research before you buy your house, then you can't complain WHEN it floods. I dont know why It's not mandatory to build houses on stilts, if being built on a floodplain, or would that be too simple. icon_thumright
