Re: Is anyone still BBQing ...............

You may have cooked it on the BBQ, but I bet you didn't sit and eat it in the garden, in sunny south Wales. icon_thumright

Re: Trachycarpus fortunei trunk types Survey

Surely a shaggy is just a hairy were the petioles have been cut short and close to the trunk allowing the hair on the trunk to break out from behind the petioles and flop all over the place? icon_thumright

Re: buttress roots

Root over rock, nice idea Mr L I have done that in the past with good effect but there are pitfalls. If you need any advice please ask. Also you can train the trunk and branches to good effect just like a giant bonsai. I am in the process of doing this with a Mulberry tree. icon_thumright

Re: garden design help

Not strictly true in my experience Mr l. They are OK for a few years but unless you brilliant designer with military precision you always end up trimming things back to stop other things getting swamped and shaded out. icon_thumright

Re: Garden Planning Ideas

Hi, Max sorry for the delay in getting back to you after asking all those questions. If it were mine i would plant a few evergreen shrubs or small trees of Oriental origin along the boundary to give some winter colour. Then in the front I would make a Japanese garden with Acers, Ferns, rocks ...

Re: Butia Eriospatha

Was it from Hans Peter, Palmen 3103 off eBay? If so I have had palms from him on three occasions, they have all survived and settled in without any trouble. Postage is all so surprisingly inexpensive. I can recommend this guy. icon_thumright

Nice palm Derick. I find them fast growers and will take the rain. Looks plenty big enough to plant outside.

Re: Sown Washingtonia robusta's from 2010 lack of growth

I can't tell you what you are doing wrong but they should be bigger than than that! How big are they and how big are the pots? On the plus side they do look a good colour. I have one that is a year younger than yours that is over three feet high. It is in a 300 mm pot in a multi purpose compost and ...

Re: Garden Planning Ideas

Hi Max, Can you give us some more information regarding your garden please, you seem to have plenty of space so I'm sure it will look great when it is finished. What sort of low temperatures do you have in the winters. Do you want to block out being overlooked from the neighbour? Is the fence yours?...
