I'm on the Thames Estuary, in Kent, and although nowhere near as cold generally as in Scotland, my proximity to the continent means we can get freezes down to -10C, such as in the 'Beast' last year. My method of ...

Am I right in thinking that the Washie is now too big to protect any more, Dave?
Yes it's about 18ft (5.5m) tall, but... it is above the super cold ground level feeze area. :)

Thanks Dave....nice to see you up and running again!.
Our new rear garden is approximately 33ft wide x 142ft long.
Quite a large area then, mine is just over 40ft wide x 65ft long

Dave B's Blog - Summer 2019 pic with Washie

Not updated on here for a while, but this is a pic from the summer.

Karl66 Blog - latest pic's taken this afternoon.

Mine is just a bit west of south, so sun 'full on' at around 2pm. SE is fine, sun full on around 10 to 11am. I'd just arrange taller plants, as a shelter belt, down the left hand side. I have my deck down the left hand side to make the most of the afternoon/evening sun.

Overwintering Agaves

I cover mine with old plastic fish tanks, to keep rain off but has an air gap at the bottom. If really cold weather forecast cover the tanks with fleece.

The Buy, Swap, Barter forum has auto pruning set to 1 month. This is due to keeping it tidy, without all the old stuff that may no longer be available.
