Trunkless are planted out and survived -9.9C protected by a fleece bag, but the trunking one is still in a pot. As I only have the one, not about to experiment too much.

Be careful of buying by height. Diameter of the trunk shows age, rather than length of leaves. My preference would be a short chunky one.

Yes been keeping an eye on it while battoning down against hurricane force winds here over winter. Seems even Virginia coast had temps down to around 5F. Virginia Palm Society have been talking about their loses, and seems taller, unprotectable, Trachycarpus have not fared well. Boca Joe (Joe Seamon...

Here is a pic of the furthest advanced ones in the garden. These were protected by a Waggie palm and the back of the arbour.
All the ones I dug out around the Hiniba are on a prop base and doing well.- Tue Apr 01, 2014 4:23 pm

Re: Ideas for hiding pots?
I always use black pots when possible. They absorb heat and disappear into shadows. Some areas of my garden are potted as I use tender plants amongst hardy palms and you can't keep digging in the palm rootball planting out or burying pots. In these cases the black pots in conjunction with sprawly sm...

Re: What is the growth rate of a mature Chammy?
Dave - have you stopped it producing side shoots (ie removed) or is it the single trunk version? Also what has caused it to bulk up thickness of the trunk? - lovely palm that icon_thumleft Cheers Ben It has very few pups, unlike some which become a thicket with age, but yes, I have been removing the...

Re: Colocasia Pink China survive planted outside.
Mine are similar Kris. The main thing may be the time to bulk up and get going. Seems they are earlier in a sunny position than in shade. Pink China is also one of the earliest to start under glass, so may get a real head start to plant out after the frosts.
