Re: Your garden plot VS the neighbours

Being on the corner of a sharp bend in the road my house sits at a different angle to my neighbours. Their back windows don't overlook our patio but their front windows are positioned where they can easily stare into our front rooms from theirs. On the plus side i get more patio space as the garden ...

Re: How deep is your garden?

Mine is a mixture. I think the builders in the 30s tried to level out the slope with whatever means possible. Top 18 inches is beautiful top soil. Then a 2 inch layer of roofing slate followed by one foot of claggy clay. Under that is very chalky soil. The chiltern hills are mostly chalk.

Re: August 2013 photos

Looking great, spacious, brilliant idea wit the pergola, are you planning to heat it during winter? Maybe the warmth of the wall will keep it above freezing Quite a lot of pots to move when the nasty season starts icon_thumleft Electric oil filled radiator in there for the coldest nights. The green...

Re: August 2013 photos

Not a pergola but a lean-to with a proper roof on it. I built it in july 2012 so it hasn't been there long. It has reed screening on the roof to hide the felt roofing and deck boards around the outside to hide joints. I use a passion flower to climb up it but it was only planted in may this year so ...

Re: Tropical Garden

Some bizarre comments, granted under the worst rated section: "Thought it was illegal to bring in anything agricultural - plants as well as food - from other countries? What will be the long-term effect of a tropical ecosystem on our local foliage here?" Obviously someone who thinks we get tropical...

Been lashing it down here since 7pm. It had got to 30c earlier but is now at 16c. Saves me watering anything for a few days.

Re: Devastating fire at Mark and Gaz's

Like Jezza, i visited Gaz and Mark about 3 weeks ago, Nat sat in the jungle hut for a while chatting with Gaz while mark was showing me a plant in the middle patio (no longer there!!), the saving grace is the new koi pond area escaped as that would have been deverstating, and when i spoke to Gaz la...

Re: Devastating fire at Mark and Gaz's

As i have already posted on fb, i had the same fate 4 years ago but as i'd only just started doing my garden no real damage was done, just a few fence panels. I was in their garden last month and got to see it before the fire.
