It's becoming costa del chesham at the moment. Only seen 2 days below 30c in the last 8. Today it's got to 34.2c. I like heat but that is starting to get to me now. I was at clacton on sea yesterday and it was a dull grey overcast 19c. Get back home and it's a lovely 28c and glorious sunshine. Think i'll stay at home.

Way too much money for a palm with not enough root. I dug up a Phoenix canariensis_CIDP in october 2011, it started growing again this spring so digging a larger one out does (in my experience) set them back a year.

Try watering early morning or in the evening when it's cooler. The soil will be quite warm during the heat of the day and i would think chucking cold water on it would give it a shock. Just like we would if some numpty chucked water over us.

I had mine planted in the hottest place in the garden last year but you must throw a bucket of water at it every day, unless it rains of course.

The children of the school who visited last week made a book full of their drawings and pictures.
