I have a number of these and some are developing the legendary brown spots, some I have had 20 years and only recently developed these distinguishing marks. I have had two that were leafed to the ground(not sure if that's gramatical) but now I have had to remove some 30 leaves giving that pineapple...

chamaerops exelsa is used to mean trachycarpus fortunei but should be counted as a wrong answer ive seen chammies labelled as exeslia. not bad price i guess, wilkinsons have had that size for a fiver this yr. who cares bout latin names, will grow into a nice clump as ade has said. plant in next yr ...

variegation is just a diseased plant, yes looks pretty, The cause of the variegation symptoms is a mosaic plant virus called abutilon mosaic. why do we as gardeners pay so much for a plant that is ill. just my thoughts.

treat them like dahlias!!!!! let the compost dry out, keep above freezing, next spring soak for 24 hours and replant. well it worked for me.

Several things, one main one, that I do differently. There seems to be a desperate hurry to stop them growing this year, and dig them out. Mine will remain outside and growing until the leaves get frosted, which could be as late as December. If the first frost is -5C or something... then I would ha...
