stripping fortunei.

One of my fortunei, has today had a hair cut. The main reason being, even though it has a 4ft10inch trunk its always going to be one of the thin variety. when the skin has hardened off i shall wax and polish the trunk. I think the thick chunky fortunei look better left with there hair on. This one i...

Re: 1.5 metre Trachycarpus

If I seen that in a local shed etc i'd pay £20 for it, the card would be out faster than a fast rat up a drainpipe  I don't mind long stems, as when the new ones grow shorter due to better light outside it gives a great balance and look icon_cheers icon_cheers icon_cheers It always baffles me ...

Re: mexican corner.

personally i rate neomexicana as being quite tough, best kept in a container though so you can be sure of looking after it until milder winters return. id also say do that with your faxoniana as the trunk cell structure ruptures in severe cold, after winter you think your plant is fine but unknown to...

Small waggy.

Because my patio pots were building up i've decided today to plant a 2ft waggy. i,ve placed it behind a 3ft dwarf wall and planted it 20inches away from wall to allow for growth. when the frost comes i will wrap some fleece on it and place a large barrell with holes cut in it for ventilation. Does t...

Re: mexican corner.

Karl, where did you get that Montana from? It looks very nice indeed. It's certainly the biggest Montana I've seen. Hi, it was bought from Hyde cottage exotics, worcester. Small family concern and good to deal with. They have a nice Neomexicana about the same size but i dont know how it fairs again...

Re: Agarve Montana.

Thanks Andrew, can see them now, fabulous, wish I had the room for a bed of these, I could only possibly do them in pots, but garden is so small they could be dangerous, I accidently brushed against an agave in GC a few weeks ago and boy did it hurt. They remind me of holidays in Mexico, its fantas...

Re: Agarve Montana.

Is the Agarve an easy plant to repot, also what sort of feed do they like and how regular?. Also looking at an Agarve neomexicana?, how does this compare to the montana for durability. karl.

Nice plants Karl, love the Faxoniana and the rostrata is a fave of mine too. Are you overwintering them indoors? Im still undecided about the rex, i want one... BUT just the one lol. So if i get one it will go in a pot. Be warned if yours is killed off this winter it will be appearing in your lawn ...

Re: Washingon(ia) Robust(a)

We had -21 in worcester so im not suprised Karl. Saying that tho there are some huge trachys & waggys near me that look untouched, but they are in the ground. My Washie is in a pot, a big one mind and this year i think i can just about get it in the greenhouse, so it may have a slim chance of s...

Getting a nice collection there Karl, glad the Washy you got is bigger than 24cm which you posted in your other thread. I was in Homebase a couple of weeks ago and saw the washys, very nice specimens for the money. I really like the yucca, no expert is it a filamentosa? I like the way you are carvi...
